The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has refuted claims that it has failed to display the voters’ register in disobedience of extant laws.
The commission’s Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, disclaimed the report at an event to validate the revised framework and regulations for voting by Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, in Abuja.
He, therefore, assured Nigerians that the commission will display the comprehensive register in all the 8,809 wards and 774 local government areas/area councils nationwide as envisaged in Section 19(1) of the Electoral Act 2022.
Yakubu also revealed that the register will integrate fresh voters registered under the last Continuous Voters Registration exercise into the existing register of over 84 million voters.
He stated that the date will be announced as soon the commission completes the idea of voting by Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs.
