Fire gutted 7 self-contained apartments in a private hostel occupied by the Students of Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin on Wednesday afternoon.
The private hostel known as “GQ Hostel” was located outside the Polytechnic Campus at Apata Yakuba area, Ilorin had 7 of the 11 self-contained flats consumed by the fire.
Household materials in the residential building at GQ Hostel, in Yakuba Area of Ilorin, were destroyed by the raging fire, the PUNCH Metro gathered.
Kwara State Fire Service which confirmed the incident said that the fire incident occurred at about 12:13 pm on Wednesday, September 28, 2022, as a result of a power surge.
In a statement signed by Hassan Adekunle, Head of Media and Publicity of the state Fire Service, said that “Firemen were able to perform excellently well by immediately stopped the spread of the raging fire, and subsequently eliminated it.
“This firemen’s technicality approach saved the other apartments of the building from the scathed inferno.”
Adekunle said that the total estimated property saved was N10.6million, while the total estimated property lost in the inferno was put at N3.8million.
Adekunle said that the Director, Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade Olumuyiwa expressed his sadness over the incident and therefore urged the general public to always play safe in their various domains.
